JOB SEEKERS SWELL TO OVER 300,000 ANNUALLY,

Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane says the number of people especially youths seeking employment and other opportunities in the labor market has increased to about 350,000 each year.

Dr. Musokotwane says this has increased pressure on the government to provide these opportunities to the people by favorable taxes in place.

Speaking when he officiated at the 2022 National Budget Consultative meetings in Lusaka today, Dr. Musokotwane said there is a need to have taxes that promote economic growth in order to provide such opportunities to the citizens.

Dr. Musokotwane said taxes are important not only in promoting investment in the economy and can also be used to discourage the consumption of alcohol and cigarettes on the market.

He said budget consultations are critical in identifying incentives government needs to provide in order to attract more investment in the country.
