K160 PER 50KG IS BETRAYAL TO Farmers – TWASA
PF Kasenengwa Member of Parliament Philemon Twasa has described as a betrayal to farmers, the K160 the Food Reserve Agency intends to pay for a 50 kilogram bag of white maize during this year’s crop marketing season.
Mr. Twasa has demanded that government should revise to between K200 and K250, the maize flow price as per their promise and this will be cost reflective considering the high cost of producing maize.
The Kasenengwa lawmaker said the K160 is damaging and demotivating to small scale farmers who were looking forward to a good maize price under the new dawn administration.
Speaking at a Media briefing, Mr. Twasa has projected a reduction in maize production going forward because not many farmers will be willing to venture into maize production.
And Mr. Twasa is saddened that about 3,300 metric tonnes of D Compound and over 5100 metric tonnes of Urea were not delivered to Eastern Province for the 2021/2022 farming season despite farmers paying their K400 contribution for FISP.
