KAIZER ZULU IN FOREIGN COUNTRY AS SURETIES ASK FOR 21 DAYS TO LOCATE HIM
THE Lusaka Magistrates Court has been informed that a search for fugitive former political advisor to the president Kaizar Zulu has revealed that he is a foreign country.
Lusaka principal resident magistrate Sylvia Okoh has since granted an application by the accused person’s sureties to be given 21 days to locate him so that he can answer to immigration related charges.
In this matter, Kaizar is facing immigration related offenses after he allegedly failed to report before the nearest immigration officer and failing to surrender a diplomatic passport.
The accused was found with a case to answer and placed on his defence but since June, Kaizar has been missing.
His sureties, Lumezi lawmaker Munir Zulu and his Chilubi counterpart Mulenga Fube have to look for him and ensure that he appears in court.
When the matter resumed, Friday, public prosecutor Frederick Nsama informed the court that the case was coming up for return of bench warrant, which had not been executed.
“The two sureties[Munir and Mulenga] are before court to explain how far they have gone to bring accused before this nonourable court,” Mr Nsama informed the court.
In his explanation, Mr Zulu informed the court that, working together with arresting officers, “progress is being made for us to have accused brought before this honourable court”.
“The jurisdiction in which he is in, is known…not to disclose much. Given enough time, we should be able to bring the accused before this court,” Mr Zuu said.
Arresting officer Friday Malimakau and Mr Fube adopted Mr Zulu’s submission.
At this point, the magistrate asked the sureties how much time they needed to locate the accused.
“Knowing that we are dealing with a foreign jurisdiction, we are asking maybe for 21 days”, Mr Zulu suggested as the court granted the plea and adjourned the case to October 16
