KELVIN SAMPA PLACED ON DEFENCE ON THE ALLEGED THEFT OF K1.4M
Former Kasama MP and UPND leader, Kelvin Sampa appeared before Lusaka Magistrate Court on criminal charges of obtaining K1.4 million from a businessman, using false pretenses.
In May 2022,Police arrested Kelvin Sampa for allegedly obtaining K1.4 million from a businessman running Mbaruku Trading Limited on the pretext that he was going to help him have his goods which were impounded by ZRA released.
MBARUKU Trading Limited also sued the former Sampa in the Lusaka High Court demanding payment of K1.4 million he allegedly paid himself as commission instead of paying the money to clear the goods impounded by ZRA.
The company argued that Sampa allegedly assured them that he would assist in getting back their Konyagi spirits consignment, which was impounded by the authority, as he had senior contacts at ZRA.
Lusaka Magistrate, Hon. Trevor Kasanda has since found Sampa with a case to answer and has placed him on his defence.
Sampa doesn’t deny that he received the money but claims that the K1.4million was paid to him as service fees which he charges for consultancy.
The matter came up for cross examination after Sampa gave evidence.
