The last 12 Zambian students who were stuck in Ukraine’s state of Sumy have safely arrived back home aboard Qatar airlines.

Receiving the students at Kenneth Kaunda international Airport in Lusaka was Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit, National Coordinator, Dr. Gabriel Pollen in the company of other senior government officials.

He explains that the humanitarian corridor between different states made it possible to have all the 91 out of the 141 registered students out of Ukraine with 2 having opted to remain in that country as they have intergrated.

Dr. Pollen adds that aside from the 91 students that have come back home, government is still offering a window of opportunity for those that would want to come back to Zambia.

Issiah Gale one of the students has described the journey from Sumy as rough as they had to travel over 16 Km to get to the polish boarder where it was also another pandemonium as they had to wait over 12 hours to be assisted.

And Steven Bwalya one of the parents who came to pick his daughter has expressed gratitude to government for facilitating the evacuation of the students.- Diamond TV
