LITHUANIA READY TO FUND PERMANENT U.S. MILITARY PRESENCE

Lithuania is seeking to host U.S. troops on a permanent basis and says it is prepared to help cover the costs of such a deployment.

Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius discussed the possibility with John Coale, a special envoy for U.S. President Donald Trump.

However, Sinkevičius ruled out the likelihood of a large-scale Russian military operation against the Baltic states in the near term. He said Lithuania’s intelligence services have not detected an increased risk, while stressing the need for continued vigilance.

The proposal comes as European officials warn of alleged Russian hybrid threats targeting NATO members, particularly in the Baltic region.
