LOCAL GOVERNMENT MINISTER LIFTS KAFUE COUNCIL SUSPENSION
By Oswald Sichone in Lusaka
MINISTER of Local Government and Rural Development Garry Nkombo has with immediate effect lifted the three months suspension which was slapped on Kafue Town Council.
Speaking when he held a meeting with Councilors and Management from Kafue Town Council at the Ministry of Local Government Headquarters on Wednesday morning, Nkombo announced the lifting of the suspension of the Council Chairperson, all Councilors and Council Secretary, Jonathan Mwanza.
Nkombo disclosed that the preliminary report shows procedural errors which Council management failed to adhere to regarding land administration.
He urged them to treat each other as innocent because whatever the mistake the council made was corrective decision.
Nkombo warned Councilors to desist from engaging in violence because he will not hesitate to suspended them again if they repeat what happened on 3rd November 2022 at the Civic Centre.
He added that the issue of double allocation was not an illegality but an anomaly which is historical and not only limited to Kafue Town Council.
Nkombo further said that the disconnect between Ministries of Lands and Local Government contributes to these anomalies of double allocation.
The Councilors and Council Secretary will report for work tomorrow.
