To ensure all eligible Zambians register to vote in the 2026 elections, the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- has today officially commenced the long-awaited continuous voter registration exercise which will be conducted across all 10 provincial districts in the country.
Speaking during the official launch in Lusaka today, ECZ Chairperson Justice Esau Chulu says the exercise will offer services such as new registrations, transfers between polling stations, replacement of voters’ cards, change of names, claims of inclusion in the register of voters and removal of deceased voters from the register.
Justice Chulu has since called on all eligible voters with national registration cards to register as voters.
And ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano said the exercise is ongoing with the first phase beginning today up to December 2022.
Mr. Nshindano also announced that registration centers will operate 5 days a week from 0800hrs to 1700hrs excluding weekends and public holidays.
Meanwhile, Operation Young Vote –OYV- executive Director Guess Nyirenda has commended the Electoral Commission Of Zambia –ECZ- for following what is contained in section 7 of the Electoral Process Act by commencing the continuous voter registration exercise.
Mr. Nyirenda says as continuous voter registration begins, ECZ should establish a well schemed sustainability schedule for the exercise which should by no excuse be seen to be a one off or periodic undertaking.
