LTTI SECURITY GUARD ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY RECEIVING K150 FOR HANDCUFFS LINKED TO K66,850 ROBBERY.
Police in Lundazi have arrested a 48-year-old security guard at Lundazi Trades Training Institute LTTI in connection with handcuffs allegedly used during an aggravated robbery in Lumezi District.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Robertson Mweemba says the suspect, identified as Misheck Banda of Jinyi Village under Chief Mphamba in Lundazi, was apprehended on October 26, 2026, around 17:30 hours.
Mr Mweemba says the arrest follows investigations into an aggravated robbery that occurred on September 28, 2026, around 02:00 hours at the residence of 38-year-old Christopher Nkhoma of Chiguzeni Village in Lumezi.
During the incident, four armed men allegedly posing as wildlife officers broke into Nkhoma’s house, assaulted his wife, handcuffed him and stole property valued at K66,850.
Police have since apprehended three other suspects in connection with the robbery.
Mr Mweemba says one of the suspects, Simon Ng’oma, allegedly disclosed during questioning that Banda had supplied him with two pairs of black handcuffs.
According to police, Banda admitted giving Ng’oma the handcuffs about three weeks before the incident after receiving K150 and being promised that they would be returned within three days.
However, the handcuffs were allegedly not returned as agreed.
Banda is currently detained at Lundazi Police Station to assist with investigations and is expected to appear in court.
Mr Mweemba says further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
