LUNDAZI ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT KILLS 3 CHILDREN
Kaunda Madela and Lusungu Mwale both aged 9 of Chipyola Compound in Lundazi District have died on the spot after being hit by a Volvo Truck near Tigone Dam whilst on their way to school.
Eastern Province Commanding Officer Limpo Liywalii has confirmed to Kanele FM and disclosed that Kaunda sustained internal injuries while Lusungu had a deep cut on the leg and head injuries.
Meanwhile Clement Phiri aged 10 of the same area who had sustained a cut on the forehead, died upon arrival at Lundazi District Hospital.
Mr Liywalii revealed that the accident happened around 10hrs on Tuesday 29th November 2022 at Tigone area near Tigone Dam along Lundazi – Chama Road.
He said involved was a Volvo Truck registration number MARK BAR 6778 and trailer number ALV 6069 which was being driven by Thomas Chanda aged 25 of Zingalume Compound Lusaka, was carrying Five (5) passengers on board and all of them have escaped unhurt.
It has been established that the accident was caused due to excessive speed hence the driver lost control and hit the pedestrians who were in front of the motor vehicle on the left lane.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited in Lundazi Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem while the driver has been detained in Lundazi Police custody and will appear in court soon.
