MAKEBI ZULU DEMANDS IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF FRED M’MEMBE
Patriotic Front Presidential Candidate Makebi Zulu has condemned the arrest of Socialist Party leader Dr. Fred M’membe.
Zulu said the UPND regime should stop weaponising the law to intimidate political opponents.
He stated that freedom of speech must be protected as a vital pillar of democracy.
Zulu argued that the detention of Dr. M’membe is unjust and politically motivated.
He insisted that M’membe must be released without delay to uphold justice and fairness.
Police, Monday, arrested Dr. Fred M’membe following remarks he made on Kwithu FM.
He alleged that President Hakainde Hichilema had “imprisoned the body” of former president Edgar Lungu by preventing his family from burying him nine months after his death.
M’membe has since been charged with Prohibition of Harassment and Humiliation under Section 22(2)(a)(b) of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.
The government came to collect the body of former president, but you quickly ran to court.
Malukula has failed to release the body of his master but he’s demanding for the release of M’membe. He can’t see the wrong he’s doing but claims to see the wrong on the other side. How astonishing.
You are demanding from who? M’membe is still deemed innocent until proven guilty. If he will be found with no case, he will be released but if he will be found guilty, he will be arrested just like the way CK and Nakachinda were arrested. No one is above the law. HH doesn’t imprison people’s bodies or corpses, neither does he release detainees, RB died when HH was already the President and given dignified send off befitting a former head of state. So why should he imprison Lungu’s body especially that the family doesn’t even want him to see it? Let the family cooperate by allowing Lungu’s body to be brought to Zambia for a state burial, the grave is already prepared and waiting. Where is the problem, you are just wasting time.
