MALAWIAN SOLDIER KILLED FOR STEALING MONEY.

An angry mob around Siyasiya trading centre in Salima on Friday night killed a Malawi Defence Force (MDF) member (soldier) after he stole Malawian currency K140,000 (K3,000 Zambian currency) from a businessman and threatening to kill him with a gun.
According to a Police report, the named businessman closed his shop at around 19:30 on Friday.

He then carried a travelling bag containing some cash but as he was going home he was attacked by the soldier who threatened him with a gun and grabbed the bag containing the money.

The businessman then shouted for help and people chased after the criminal soldier who was putting on civil. When they caught him, they found him with a pistol parabelium 4.5 mm without ammunition. They also recovered the stolen money and started beating him up with stones and sticks despite identifying himself as a soldier until he urinated on himself. After he became unconsious, the angry mob set him ablaze.

National Police Spokesperson James Kadadzera said wife of the deceased positively identified the suspect and postmortem has revealed that death was due to head injuries secondary to burning.

Police have since condemned the act of mob justice and have warned that all those involved in the barbaric act will face the law.

The deceased hailed from Chakwilira Village in Traditional Authority Chakhaza in Dowa Malawi.

The Malawi Defence Force identified the burnt to death soldier as Corporal Kingsley Manjawira, 35, who was based at Parachute Battalion.
