MAN JAILED FOR TEMPERING WITH WIDOW’S BENEFITS
Mazabuka Magistrate Court has sentenced a 23 year old man of Mazabuka to 9 months imprisonment for depriving a widow of her benefits.
Byta FM Court Beat Journalist reports that this is in matter where Hendrix Lifumbo and Beatrice Lifumbo where charged with depriving beneficiaries of their entitlement, contrary to section 14 (a) (1) of the Interstate Act Chapter 59 of the laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that on dates unknown but between 7th April, 2020 and 17th September, 2021, whilst jointly acting together did unlawfully deprive Mawini Machangi of the estate of Munalula Lifumbo.
Facts of before court are that Hendrix Lifumbo, being Administrator of his father’s estate, failed to follow the law by depriving his step mother, Mawini Machangi and her son of their benefits.
Among the properties the complainants where deprived of are a farm, a school and vehicles amounting to over K500 000.
In delivering judgment, Magistrate Mwenya Mutinta slapped a 9 months imprisonment sentence on Hendrix Lifumbo, but acquitted the Beatrice Lifumbo.
