The Advocates For National Development and Democracy (ANDD) has emphasized that the mining and Investment Insaka that was held last week represented a progressive strategy to advance mining development and economic growth in the country.

The Organization has also acknowledged the efforts by Vedanta Resources through Konkola Copper Mines Plc that supported the initiative by donating US$200, 000 towards the successful hosting of the event.

ANDD Executive Director Samuel Banda says this initiative created a platform for industry leaders, top mining executives, investment strategists, and other stakeholders, including government representatives, to come together in a collaborative environment to share innovative insights and effective strategies for enhancing the mining sector.

“We are pleased to report that we monitored the recently held 2024 Zambia Mining and Investment Insaka, which was a notable success. We commend the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development for organizing this successful event, which brought together key stakeholders in the mining industry to exchange valuable insights,” he said.

“We would also like to recognize Konkola Copper Mine (KCM), under the management of Vedanta Resources, for being the major sponsor of the 2024 Mining Indaba. This sponsorship clearly demonstrates Vedanta’s strong commitment to promoting growth and development in the mining sector, which is crucial for achieving our national target of increasing copper production to 3 million metric tonnes per annum by 2031.”

Mr Banda acknowledged that Vedanta’s KCM contributed $200,000 to sponsor the Mining Indaba.

He believed this significant investment played a vital role in ensuring the success of the event.

“As ANDD, we wholeheartedly support such development initiatives. We believe that platforms like the Mining Indaba facilitate the exchange of sound ideas that can lead to economic solutions addressing current challenges. We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for sustainable development in our country, aiming to promote economic growth and improve the living standards of Zambians,” he added.

“Given the ongoing energy crisis, particularly prolonged load shedding, which has adversely affected our domestic economy, especially small business, we strongly urge the government to organize an economic Indaba. This forum is essential for addressing pressing economic challenges, particularly the energy crisis and the rising cost of living. We believe that collaborative efforts are crucial for finding effective solutions to these issues.”
