MISSING CONVICT NABBED FROM HIS LIBALA HOME
ALERT law enforcers have apprehended a convict who recently ‘disappeared’ from a courtroom soon after being sentenced to five years imprisonment with hard labour for illegal possession of a pangolin.
Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) officers found the elusive Isaac Nkhata at his residence in Libala South, Lusaka, where he was fished out from one of the guest bedrooms.
A source told Zambia Daily Mail that the 44-year old convict, who has been missing for almost two months, was nabbed last Wednesday.
“Officers from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife on December 4, 2024 managed to apprehend a convict who escaped the jail sentence of five years before honourable Mutinta Mwenya.
“The dealing officer, Mpundu Patrick Mukupa, and his fellow officer from the same department found the convict hiding in his spare bedroom at his residence.
“The convict started [serving] his sentence afresh on December 4, 2024,” the source said.
The informer said the officers had been tracking the businessman from Lusaka to North-Western Province until he was captured.
The same convict is scheduled to appear before Lusaka magistrate Contance Kasankala for the same offence of illegal possession of a live pangolin, which is a protected animal under the Zambia Wildlife Act No. 14 of 2015.
