MNANGAGWA’S SON COLLINS LINKED TO CHENXI MINE WHERE ONE DIED, THREE INJURED IN SHURUGWI CLASHES

GWERU – Ownership of Chenxi Mine, where one person was killed and three others were injured on Monday night after violence erupted in Shurugwi and five excavators were set ablaze, has been linked to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, Collins Mnangagwa.

Chenxi Investments (Private) Limited, also known as Chengxi, is a Chinese-linked mining operation. Collins Mnangagwa serves as the company’s chairman in partnership with Chinese investors, according to ZimLive.

The firm is among the largest mining operations in Shurugwi district and has run open-cast heap leach operations in the Wanderer, Boterekwa and Dunraven areas since 2021.

Sources said the violence followed efforts by the mine’s owners to evict artisanal miners working under Marufu Sithole at Wanderer and Chris Mahara at Boterekwa.

Neither Collins Mnangagwa nor Chenxi Investments had responded to requests for comment by the time of publication.
