MUKUKA CALLS FOR TWO-TERM LIMIT FOR MPs, WARNS AGAINST REMOVING PRESIDENTIAL TERM LIMIT
YOUTH advocate Mukuka Kampamba, popularly known as Tiza Mukuka, has called on newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) to make a two-term limit their first priorities in Parliament.
Speaking on the European Youth Platform, Mukuka said rotating elected representatives would help bring new perspectives and approaches to constituency development.
Mukuka wants MPs to introduce motions seeking to limit elected Members of Parliament to two terms, similar to presidential term limits.
He argues that development has stalled in some constituencies where MPs have remained in office for decades, saying regular rotation would create opportunities for new leaders with fresh ideas.
He has also warned against proposals to scrap presidential term limits, describing such a move as retrogressive and potentially damaging to Zambia’s democratic development.
Mukuka said Zambia should focus on moving forward rather than reversing democratic reforms.
