MUNDUBILE, HICHILEMA MUST RULE THE COUNTRY TOGETHER, ZUMANI ZIMBA PLEADS
NRPUP Secretary General Chris Zumani Zimba has made a dramatic appeal for President Hakainde Hichilema and Brian Mundubile to put political differences aside and consider forming a Government of National Unity, arguing that Zambia has been deeply divided by the election.
In a passionate post on his official Facebook page, Mr. Zumani Zimba called on the two political leaders to urgently open dialogue, saying the country needs reconciliation rather than prolonged political confrontation.
“Let Brian Mundubile or Hakainde Hichilema prepare for an Inclusive Government of National Unity & Reconciliation. This election demands that Hakainde Hichilema and Brian Mundubile must urgently dialogue because it is so dangerously divisive. The two are not eternal enemies,” he wrote.
According to Mr. Zumani Zimba, a Government of National Unity would provide an opportunity for the country to heal, reconcile and move beyond the political battles that have characterised the election period.
But instead of receiving universal support, the proposal immediately triggered a fierce backlash from some social media users.
Several Facebook commentators questioned why NRPUP was calling for unity before addressing the controversy surrounding results circulated by the party and its supporters during the electoral process.
Some commentators challenged the NRPUP leadership to first concede defeat, if the official results have gone against them, and explain the source of the unofficial results that were circulated and presented as evidence of a Mundubile victory before the Electoral Commission of Zambia made its official announcement.

How can a clear winner discuss or negotiate anything with a documented loser ???
The winner will be declared the winner by ECZ. The winner can not transmit or transfer or share that win to a loser. There is no constitutional provision for that kind of arrangement.
We know jail is waiting for Mundubile. He can not negotiate his way out of crimes he committed. Leadership is about taking responsibility.
You’re right on point, @Malikopo. Mundubile and his team have committed numerous crimes over the past fourteen days. HH is smart enough to avoid dining with these criminals, let alone working with them. There is nothing to reconcile with the opposition.

The assertions made by Zumani Zimba that Zambia requires a Government of National Unity between President Hakainde Hichilema and Brian Mundubile because the country is allegedly divided are, in the absence of credible evidence, politically reckless and wholly unsubstantiated. Such pronouncements risk creating unnecessary anxiety, undermining public confidence in Zambia’s democratic institutions, and pre-empting an electoral process that must be allowed to run its lawful course.
It is particularly concerning when political actors make definitive claims about electoral outcomes while the Electoral Commission of Zambia is still undertaking its constitutional responsibility of receiving, verifying, tallying and announcing results. Declaring a candidate victorious before the official process has been completed is irresponsible and can fuel misinformation, mistrust and needless tension among citizens.
There is absolutely no constitutional or democratic basis for demanding a Government of National Unity merely because some political actors allege that the country is divided. Zambia is a constitutional democracy, and political differences are not, by themselves, evidence of a national crisis requiring an extraordinary political arrangement. Governments must emerge from the electoral mandate expressed by the people through a lawful electoral process.
Political parties and their supporters must therefore exercise restraint and allow the Electoral Commission of Zambia to complete its mandate without undue political pressure or interference. The credibility of our democracy depends not only on how elections are conducted, but also on whether political actors respect the institutions established to administer them.
If any party or candidate genuinely believes that the electoral process has been compromised, the appropriate response is not to circulate alarming allegations, announce unofficial results or make inflammatory political statements. The proper course is to present credible, verifiable and documentary evidence through the mechanisms provided by the Constitution and electoral law, including the courts where appropriate.
Zambia cannot afford politics driven by speculation, social-media misinformation or premature declarations. Those who make serious allegations about the integrity of an election must be prepared to substantiate them with evidence and defend them through lawful processes.
There is no justification for manufacturing a political crisis where none has been established. Zambia’s democratic institutions must be allowed to do their work, and the people’s electoral mandate must ultimately be determined through the lawful process prescribed by the Constitution and electoral laws.
Suppose it were them who had won, can they even propose that idea to anyone?
