MUNDUBILE, MAKEBI RETURN TO SOLWEZI FOR SEDITION CASE

SOLWEZI — October 5, 2026

NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu are back in Solwezi today for their court appearance in a case involving charges of seditious practices.

The two are expected to appear before Principal Resident Magistrate Mambwe Mukonde, with October 5 and 6 set aside for plea and possible commencement of trial.

The matter was previously adjourned on September 25 after Mundubile told the court that his lawyers were not present. The State, led by Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri, indicated that it was ready to proceed but did not oppose the adjournment in the interest of justice.

The charges arise from social media posts made during the tense period surrounding the August 13, 2026 general election.

Mundubile is accused of posting on Facebook that the NRPUP was leading the presidential race according to its Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) and calling on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to resume counting and announce the results.

Zulu is separately accused of posting that Mundubile would shortly address the nation and urging members of the public to remain on standby.

The defence has previously questioned why the case is being heard in Solwezi when the alleged social media activity was said to have occurred in Lusaka.

The sedition matter is separate from the treason allegations involving Mundubile, Zulu and other detainees.
