MWENYE HAD ALCOHOL CONTENT HIGHER THAN NORMAL – POLICE
Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi has disclosed that a breathalyser test on former Attorney-General and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) board chairperson Musa Mwenye revealed an alcohol content higher than the legal limit.
Mr Chilabi said officers recorded a damage-only road traffic accident involving Mr Mwenye, 49, which occurred on Lake Road at a complex housing Choppies supermarket and Copperbelt University (CBU) Lusaka campus around 04:00 hours.
“Mr Mwenye was briefly held at Woodlands Police Station but was immediately released to seek further medical attention and police have since initiated investigations into the offence of driving under the influence of alcohol, contrary to section 157(i) of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002, along with other inquiries into traffic offences.”
And some officers at Woodlands Police Station narrated to Zambia Daily Mail that the former Solicitor-General and Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) Chairperson issued threats against them.
“Normal” alcohol content? Or rather acceptable?
Its embarassing that a person of such stature is involved in such a situation and the hour at which the accident occurred.
This past week we have witnessed several accidents caused by wreckless acts, and a number of lives that have been lost.
This is but one accident that could have been avoidable. A taxi, Yango or a friend spouse could have been called to pick the State Counsel.
I dont know why responisible behaviour has been thrown out of the window for stories of “state agents were tailing him”. Some things are avoidable. The lapse in judgement in this case; maybe a wake up call for the learned counsel to take a step back. Take stock and rethink what is important in his life. Driving under the influence, can have fatal consequences no matter how often one has done it before. Our choices have consequences. In the Kaunda era I remember a Mr. Kazunga losing his job; looking back it makes sense.
The detention was his own safety given the hour the accident occurred and the next step was seek medical intervention. Sad that the first statement/news article was done to mislead and cast aspiration to the Police yet lives are stake and the Police in their role seek to enforce the law and protect lives….
