Nakonde teacher robbed by motorbike taxi rider

A teacher in Nakonde was robbed on Friday morning by an unidentified motorbike taxi rider.

The teacher whose identity has been withheld has told Chete FM News that this happened when she was about to hop on the bike with her coworker.

“As I was putting on a wrapper, the rider got the bag behind and put it in front of him. I was with my fellow teacher. As we were talking, before we could realise, the guy started the motorbike and that’s how be sped away,” she says.

Two smart phones and cash were among the values in the bag.

“One[of the phones] was costing around K3000, the other one K2,500 plus the K1200 cash which was in the bag.”

The teacher describes the incident as traumatising.

“They shouldn’t listen to the people saying they’ll protest to stop registering. The public should stop boarding these unregistered motorbikes, that’ll make those who are not registered to register,” she adds.

Her colleague has said enforcement of the law should now be heightened following recent attacks on people after the ban on movement of unregistered vehicles in Nakonde.
