Vice president Inonge Wina says government will not institute a Commission of inquiry into the gassing incidents that left 50 people dead.

Zambia late last year into early this year experienced gassing attacks on innocent citizens prompting President Edgar Lungu to announce the intention to constitute a commission of inquiry into the matter in parliament earlier this year.

But vice president Inonge Wina has told parliamentarians during the vice president’s question time this morning that a commission of inquiry will not be set up because the matter is in court while some of the suspects have been convicted.

Responding to a question from Solwezi east Member of Parliament Leaky Kintu who wanted to know what progress government has made in establishing a Commission of Inquiry on gassing, Mrs. Wina says government will wait to see the conclusion of the matters in court regarding the gassing attacks.

But on the privatization of state assets in the 1990s, the vice president said a Commission of Inquiry is imminent because it is a very important matter.

Meanwhile, the vice president told parliament that opposition political parties will not be allowed to undertake any public processions without being permitted, despite the Public Order Act requiring only a notification.

In response to leader of the opposition in the house Jack Mwiimbu who wanted to know if political parties will be allowed to sensitize the general public on voter registration as guided by the Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ- yesterday, Mrs. Wina says no meetings will be allowed without police permission as this will be condoning anarchy.
