Home Affairs and Internal Security Permanent Secretary Dickson Matembo says the government has no information confirming that former Petauke Member of Parliament Emmanuel Jay Jay Banda has been arrested.
Mr Matembo was responding to speculation that Mr Banda, who is wanted by the authorities, had been taken into custody.
His statement comes a day after Lily Mutamz, a close ally and colleague of Mr Banda, confirmed that he had been apprehended.
Mr Matembo said the relevant authorities would update the public if there were any new developments.
