No need to continue with multiple parties — Hamududu

UPND Alliance member Highvie Hamududu says Zambia is steadily moving towards a two-party political system.

Hamududu, who is also Party of National Unity and Progress (PNUP) president, says it is progressive for Zambia’s democracy to instead embrace political alliances.

Speaking on ZNBC’s Sunday Interview, Hamududu said it made sense for his party to join the UPND Alliance because of the alliance’s positive track record.

“In the last four elections, Zambia is moving towards a two-party democracy. From 2015 by-election too many political parties remained; the PF, UPND. 2016, UPND, PF. 2021, UPND, PF, you understand? So we’re moving towards a two-party state affair.

“And therefore, there is no need to continue with a multiplicity of political parties. And I think it’s progressive for our democracy to have alliances on the right and left so that people have two choices. It’s better that way than to have so many alliances that are not very clear,” Hamududu has opined.

He says it makes more sense for PNUP to be part of the political process and contribute to governance than to remain on the sidelines merely providing checks and balances.
