NYASULU PETITIONS SDA CHURCH TO HOLD PRESIDENT HICHILEMA TO ACCOUNT
Zambian concerned Christian and citizen Victor Nyasulu has petitioned the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Zambia to undertake a pastoral review of President Hakainde Hichilema’s conduct, arguing that Christian leaders must remain accountable to biblical standards regardless of their political position.
In a formal complaint to the SDA Zambia Union Conference dated August 31, 2026, Mr. Nyasulu raised six issues which he says require examination, including the death of former Cabinet Minister Mutotwe Kafwaya during an alleged security operation, the reported restriction of access to superior courts during a presidential election petition, and the alleged involvement of the military in the electoral counting process.
He also questioned the handling of the controversy surrounding the Office of the Auditor General, the prolonged dispute over the burial of former President Edgar Lungu, and the manner in which Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 7 of 2025 was pursued.
Mr. Nyasulu stressed that he was not asking the Church to make predetermined findings against President Hichilema, but to independently examine the allegations and establish the truth.
“I am not asking the Church to become a political party.
I am asking the Church to exercise its prophetic and pastoral responsibility,” Mr. Nyasulu said.
He urged the SDA leadership to seek clarification from the President and relevant State institutions, and, where evidence warrants, provide pastoral counsel or apply the Church’s disciplinary procedures.
Mr. Nyasulu said political office, wealth or influence should not place any Christian member beyond accountability.
He further appealed to the Church to “speak truth to power” and uphold justice, mercy, humility and integrity, regardless of who occupies State House.
“My appeal is not for condemnation but for truth and restoration; not for political persecution but for Christian accountability; not for partisan judgment but for righteous discernment,” he said.
