OPEN LETTER TO THE REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT, MR HAKAINDE HICHILEMA
REF: UNPAID SALARY ARREARS
We are group of 3000 health workers, which includes nurses and doctors who are in pursuit of our salary arrears.
In the year 2019, between April and May, government recruited and employed 3000 health workers comprising doctors and nurses.
Following the recruitment, the new staff did not receive their salaries until September 2019, thereby being owed various amounts up to September 2019.
In 2021, the government then liquidated all the arrears owed to doctors and a few nurses, leaving other health workers unpaid, despite having relentlessly pursued the matter which the Ministry of Health Headquarters, were all the records of those that did not recieve their money are available.
It is in this vein, after numerous attempts and efforts to seek other communication avenues, that we now seek your intervention so that through your good political will that you have shown, you may help us to bring the matter to it’s logical conclusion.
Your Excellency, we believe in you and we know that you will help us to get what rightly belongs to us, and also to motivate us to work even harder and better in line with government’s agenda of promoting reliable and efficiency health service delivery.
We are cognisant of the fact that our role as health workers is paramount in creating wealth through the promotion of good health. Therefore, we shall endeavour to continue being patriotic even as we seek avenues to push for improved working conditions.
Our able and listening President, our positive response to this request will be highly appreciated.
