OPPOSITION LEADER PETER CHANDA BACKS BILL 7

Opposition New Congress Party President Peter Chanda has backed Constitution Amendment Bill Number 7 of 2025, saying the proposed law will enhance proportional representation and strengthen Zambia’s democratic governance system.

Mr. Chanda said the Bill presents an opportunity to broaden political participation by ensuring that votes cast by citizens are more accurately reflected in the composition of Parliament and other representative bodies.

He told journalists that proportional representation will help address long-standing concerns of voter disenfranchisement, particularly for smaller political parties and marginalised groups whose voices are often excluded under the current electoral framework.

Mr. Chanda added that the proposed amendments will promote inclusivity and fairness in the electoral process, thereby deepening Zambia’s democracy.

He has since called on Members of Parliament to objectively scrutinise the Bill and support provisions that seek to modernise the country’s constitutional and electoral systems in the interest of all Zambians.

Mr. Chanda further urged citizens to engage constructively in the constitutional reform process, emphasising that a people-driven Constitution remains key to sustainable democratic development.

  1. Here is a useful idiot who can’t even understand what proportional representation means… When you get 0.000001 % votes , Dunderhead Chanda, it means you won’t get any Seat in Parliament.
Proportional representation is for the big boys. It’s not for small Parties.
Enjoy the ” Chipaso” we hear you were given to destabilize Tonse Alliance when your party,NCP, was chosen as the special purpose Vehicle.
There’s now FDD and State Counsel Chifumu Banda can’t be corrupted..The Struggle continues.

    • Sir, between you and your identical Twin, HaaIndigo, you are more measured, sober and make more sense, sometimes. Why are you now resorting to insulting and abusing Mr Peter Chanda? Beware of Rage and Anger!! Does anyone who holds a different view from yours all of a sudden, become a useful idiot, a dunderhead and pocketed a “Chipaso”? Really? Was Chanda and his NCP bedfellows with you in Tonse all this time until 2 months ago? Are “we” not the ones daily screaming about freedom of speech and choice, democracy, nafimbi…?

      • @Simpo Sitali
Sorry, I went too far . I tried to follow Pastor Chanda ‘s logic on his understanding of Proportional Representation, and couldn’t see any. According to him, he now has a chance of being in Parliament through Proportional Representation..I doubt if his party will get any meaningful votes to qualify for a seat in Parliament.
He should have chosen some other clause to support Bill 7. He chose a wrong clause.

    • You haven’t cried yet old man. Soon you will cry like a baby old man. The tsunami awaiting you, WOZA, TONSE, UKWA and PF is gathering serious momentum. Chanda has already seen what is on the ground. You will cry pano and show your face to all that don’t know you. Atleast I know you with your bald head
