OPPOSITION NDC HAPPY WITH BALLY

National Democratic Congress-NDC Spokesperson, Emmanuel Malite, has commended government for the signing a 2 billion United States Dollars joint venture with MASDA of the United Arab Emirates aimed at setting up solar energy in the country.

Malite says that his party which is a member of the UPND Alliance, is excited to note that the venture will see Zambia adding up to 2,000 Megawatts of electricity to the National grid.

He states that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding comes as an answer to the cry of many Zambians over the negative impact of load shedding.

Malite notes that load shedding which the country has been grappling with has paralyzed a lot of major economic activities, hence urging government and the private sector to continue pursuing and alternative sources of energy.

He has called for an end on dependency on hydro power, adding that the newly signed agreement will see the national grid having two lines of power supply.

Banda adds that putting up the solar plant will see Zambian Engineers benefit in form of employment and contracts, with Mines also expected to operate in full capacity without being interrupted by power outages.

The UPND Alliance partner has since described the agreement as one of the best the country has ever signed with foreign private entities.
