Patient wants mom who burnt her released

A 22-YEAR-OLD woman of Kanyama Township who was admitted to University Teaching Hospitals (UTH) after her mother poured hot porridge on her has shocked doctors by demanding to be discharged so that she could go and have her mother released from police custody.

Bertha Mwewa, who suffered serious burns on her stomach and back, said her sibling and other family members would suffer if her mother stayed in police custody as she was the bread winner.

Mwewa was admitted after her mother allegedly poured hot porridge on her after she refused to go and buy mealie-meal.

Both UTH public relations officer Natalie Mashikolo and police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the incident.
