Patriots for Economic Progress (PEP) has proposed a K163.8 billion alternative budget to the K173 billion 2022 national budget presented by the Zambian government.

PEP President Sean Tembo says the alternative budget could wholly be financed from domestic resources as his party has no intentions of contracting more debt both domestically or externally.

And the PEP has also proposed to increase the exempt threshold for Pay As You Earn to K7000 from the K4500 proposed by the New Dawn government.

The PEP alternative budget has also proposed to do away with Constituency Development Fund (CDF) saying constituency committees are not the right vehicle to deliver development to the citizens as they lack technical and administrative systems to handle resources.

He says local authorities remain ideal to foster national development.
