PF DEFY POLICE WARNING NOT TO MOBILIZE TO OFFER SOLIDARITY TO FORMER FIRST LADY AS SHE APPEARS FOR QUESTIONING

By Joshua Kalumba

The Patriotic Front –PF- says it will escort and offer solidarity to Former First Lady Esther Lungu as she appears for interrogation today at the Drug Enforcement Commission –DEC- offices over her 15 flats in State Lodge area.

This is despite Inspector General of Police Lemmy Kajoba warning members of the public that are planning to escort the former first lady that they are doing a disservice to her as they will be committing an offence of unlawful assembly and that police have mobilized enough manpower to deal with those wanting to break the law with impunity.

But PF Acting President Given Lubinda says party members will still proceed to give solidarity to Mrs. Lungu because as far as they are concerned, they will not be breaking any law.

Mr. Lubinda has told Phoenix News that the statement issued by the Inspector General of Police is meant to intimidate people not to turn out in numbers to offer solidarity to the former first lady.

He has since urged the Police as they carry out their duty of maintaining law and order in the country to stop intimidating people because they have no powers to stop anyone from showing solidarity to one of their own.

Mr. Lubinda argues that Zambia has no such law that stops people from escorting someone who is being investigated by law enforcement agencies adding that people will turnout peacefully unless they are provoked by the police.
