THE Patriotic Front (PF) party says late former Republican President Rupiah Bwezani Banda who many have described as a true Statesman shall be remembered for his “infectious charm and laughter.”
PF Acting president Hon Given Lubinda says even at a time late President Banda addressed Parliament, he wore a smile filled with love and joy.
He said the late former president was a leader of MMD and leader of the country at a time when opposition was getting very strong in Zambia adding that one would have feared that President Banda would have shown anger, “but he never did.”
The former ruling party leader further disclosed that president Banda helped resolve conflicts in the PF after the demise of president Michael Chilufya Sata.
“We shall dearly miss President Rupiah Banda. At the time we were going into elections after the demise of Micheal Sata, Banda was involved in settling of disputes that arose in the Patriotic Front. He is a gentleman who truly loved people beyond the political divide,” he said.
“At that time he was member of the MMD but he took keen interest in another political party all for the love that he had for the country. He looked at opposition political parties as agents of change, agents of development. And this is the reason why every Zambian today who knew Rupiah Banda is mourning.”
Meanwhile, Hon Lubinda has implored Zambians to mourn the late president Rupiah Banda with dignity and he has advised that there should be no politicking.
He also called on Zambians to instead build friendship and love.
Hon Lubinda also urged PF members to honor the late president in the days of the funeral and even beyond adding that they should from wherever they will be – stand still as the body of the President will be lowered.
He was accompanied to the funeral House by PF Chairperson for Information and Publicity Hon Raphael Nakacinda, former Defense Minister Hon Davies Chama, former Mines Minister Hon Richard Musukwa, former Religious Affairs Minister Hon Godfridah Sumaili, Captain Walusiku Lyambela (Rtd), Ambassador Emmanuel Mwamba among other senior party officials.
