Veteran politician George Mpombo says the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) will retain in power beyond August 12 general elections.
Dr Mpompo says the opposition has no chance to win the elections this year.
In an interview, Dr Mpombo has instead advised the opposition to prepare their for defeat, adding that the ruling party will win elections and President Edgar Chagwa Lungu will be sworn in as Republican President.
He cited the over crowded pack of presidential candidates among opposition political parties to have greatly undermined chances of the opposition emerging victorious.
Dr. Mpombo explains that the many candidates have given more advantage to the ruling party to carry the day.
“The over crowded pack of presidential candidates of opposition has greatly undermined chances of opposition to emerge victorious, thus throwing change mantra under the bus. The uncontenstably fact of vote splitting among the opposition ranks will deliver a debilitating blow, the ruling party likely to successfully navigate the elections,” Dr. Mpombo said.
In 2006 under late president Levy Mwanawasa, the MMD lost Copperbelt and Lusaka Provinces but managed to win elections by winning Eastern, Central, North Western and Western Provinces and by sweeping Ndola rural.
” So maybe there will be sharing of votes on the Copperbelt and Lusaka but the opposition must forget about these other areas, the people will vote for the ruling party.”
