POLICE ARREST 19-YEAR-OLD OVER AI-GENERATED ARMY UNIFORM IMAGE
By ZR Reporter
Police have arrested a 19-year-old Lusaka man in connection with an alleged identity theft and impersonation case involving a digitally manipulated image of a local musician dressed in a Zambia Army uniform.
The image, which police suspect may have been generated using artificial intelligence, shows 24-year-old musician Charles Chomba wearing a Zambia Army uniform bearing the rank of Brigadier General.
Police said the image was created between September 25 and 28, 2026, before being circulated on Facebook and later coming to the attention of the Zambia Army.
Chomba, of Jack Compound, reported the matter at Kabwata Police Station on October 6.
The Zambia Police Service said joint investigations with the Military Police led to the identification and arrest of 19-year-old Daudi Ngambi of John Howard Compound.
Ngambi is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
Police have warned members of the public against creating or circulating digitally manipulated content involving defence and security institutions, saying such material could facilitate impersonation, spread misinformation and raise security concerns.
The police have also urged members of the public to verify information before sharing digitally altered content, warning that using such material for unlawful purposes may result in criminal liability.
Police said further information will be provided as investigations progress.
