POLICE IG SHOULD OFFER AMNESTY TO PF CADRES TO SURRENDER THEIR GUNS
It’s a well known fact that the PF armed thousands of its cadres with pistols and all sorts of weapons.
These guns were used in by elections, political violence and were on many occasions displayed by the cadres.
PF is gone, but the cadres still have the guns, and it’s only a matter of time before these guns are used in violent crimes across the country.
The cadres have lost their source of income, and these guns that are out there will soon start being used in armed robberies of innocent citizens.
The police command should become proactive and offer a no questions asked amnesty to allow the cadres to surrender these guns unconditionally and without fear of arrest.
If possible an incentive to buy these guns from them can be given as inducements to have these guns off the street.
It’s a small price to pay considering what these guns could do in future.
This is a ticking time bomb and the Zambia Police need to be proactive to prevent future crimes from the use of these guns.
The PF leadership should also cooperate in identifying which of their cadres were given weapons.
