POLICE URGED TO WORK WITH INTERPOL TO PURSUE ZAMBIANS LIVING ABROAD AND ARE ALLEGEDLY USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO INCITE ZAMBIANS
The Zambia Police Service has been urged to work with Interpol to pursue Zambians living abroad who are allegedly using social media to incite violence and call for the assassination of President Hakainde Hichilema.
The call has come from ruling United Party for National Development—UPND Lusaka Provincial Chairperson Obvious Mwaliteta, who says the alleged abuse of digital platforms and attacks targeting the Head of State threaten national stability.
Speaking during a press briefing, Mr. Mwaliteta specifically mentioned former lawmaker Emmanuel Jay Banda over what he described as controversial statements made online, saying such conduct must be stopped immediately
Mr. Mwaliteta also cited recent commendations by Kenyan President William Ruto towards President Hichilema as evidence of what he described as the UPND government’s successful leadership during its first term.
He has meanwhile assured the public that the ruling party remains committed to peaceful governance, democratic values and leading the country without intimidating citizens.
