PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has with immediate effect appointed Mary Chirwa as the new Director of the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

According to a statement, made available by the Presidential Spokesperson Anthony Bwalya, said Ms Chirwa’s appointment is in exercise of the powers vested in the President in section 7(1) of the Narcotic Drugs Psychotropic Substances Act number 35 of 2021.

“Ms Chirwa brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the institutions in are as of financial analysis and investigation,” the Head of State said.

President Hichilema has since congratulated Ms Chirwa on her appointment and wishes her God’s blessings in her new role.

Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema has with immediate effect terminated the appointment of Dr Musonda Simwayi as the Director General of the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).

The termination has been done pursuant to section 26 of interpretation and general provision Act chapter 2 of the laws of Zambia.

The Head of State has since thanked Dr Simwayi for his services to the government of the Republic of Zambia, and wishes him well in his future endeavors.
