It is a hoax, Bally not going to Parliament today – Kawana

Reports taking rounds on social media, including on UPND pages, that the President is scheduled to go to Parliament and address Lawmakers to mark 100 days in office are false, UPND Alliance Spokesperson Thabo Kawana has said.

Kawana said when he addressed the media at the MDC secretariat in Lusaka today that the President’s appearances in Parliament are enshrined in the Constitution and can only be occasioned using three instances.

“The first instance is that the President is scheduled to appear before Parliament to open the Parliamentary session. The second occasion, the President is scheduled to appear before Parliament to give the state of the nation…..the third occasion is that the President can request madam speaker to address Parliament on a special occasion,” he said.

“And a special occasion can be anything. Maybe he wants to quit, maybe there is war…”

Kawana described the said report as a hoax, bad rumour and continued misuse of social media by bad elements.
