RTSA backtracks – revises fare rates for the second time

After announcing a 14% cut in fares for intercity routes, the Road Transport and Safety Agency – RTSA have back tracked and revised the reduction by a 4% to now 10% reduction.

This follows the initial rejection of its earlier announced reductions to Bus and Taxi owners. The Agency new management team that has been installed following the sacking of the erstwhile team was accused of not deeply understanding the intricacies and realities of the public transport business.

RTSA was accused of adopting their own formula and unilaterally announcing their own numbers for a reduction which Bus and Taxi owners had not agreed to.

RTSA was also accused of re-introducing price controls and challenged to produce their own fare chart, a situation that resulted in acrimony between passengers and bus operators.

No officers at RTSA have been held accountable for this management failure which resulted in needless acrimony of the public transport sector.
