A RESCUED owl is receiving specialized medical care after being saved from an attempted stoning by children in Nampundwe area, Lusaka.
The bird suffered a broken leg and a suspected wing fracture during the attack, which was fueled by local superstitions surrounding the species considered spiritual.
A good Samaritan intervened, rescuing the owl and transporting it directly to the capital for assistance.
The Lusaka Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) initially secured the bird and issued an urgent public appeal for experienced avian handlers.
In an update, LAWS said the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) stepped in to take over the owl’s professional rehabilitation and veterinary treatment.
“A special thank you to the gentleman who brought the owl all the way from Nampundwe to Lusaka for help, and to the lady who connected the rescuer with us. We are also grateful to everyone who reached out, shared our appeal and offered assistance” LAWS said.
