REV. MULENGA’S APOLOGY CALL IS UNCHRISTIAN AND MISGUIDED ATTEMPT TO REVIVE PAST DIVISION
By Ruth Dante
Reverend Chilekwa Mulenga’s call for President Hakainde Hichilema to apologize for labeling the National Day of Prayer as “useless” during the PF administration is unfortunate and misguided.
As a Man of God he is expected to call for dialogue and reconciliation.
There was need for our Reverand to consider the context in which President Hichilema made those comments.
The PF administration at that time was marred by tribalism, violence, divisions, corruption, and lawlessness, which led many to view the National Day of Prayer led by ‘Christians for Lungu ‘as a mere spectacle.
Therefore President Hichilema’s statement reflected the widespread perception that the day had become politicized and lost its original intent.
It’s clear now , that the New Dawn administration values the National Day of Prayer, as evidenced by peace and unity in the country and his emphasis on national unity.
Rather than focusing on past criticisms, Reverend Mulenga should encourage continued dialogue and collaboration between government and religious leaders.
After all, the National Day of Prayer aims to promote unity, peace, and reconciliation and values that are essential for Zambia’s progress.
The current administration has demonstrated its commitment to the National Day of Prayer by being inclusive and reuniting the country.
At the moment encouraging dialogue and cooperation between government and religious leaders is crucial.
By shifting the focus from past disagreements to shared goals, Zambia can harness the National Day of Prayer’s potential for positive change.

National – it is not national, because so many people do not take any heed of it. It is mostly the pentecostals and ‘papa’ churches that take part. Day – it is not day because it only takes a couple of hours at some designated place. Prayer – Many people do not know what it means to pray. Prayer is a conversation with God and not a rant. Fasting – what does this really mean? Miss a meal? Most people do not have the luxury of missing a meal. Reconciliation – Well, this is the kicker. Isaiah 58 says it all- ‘Behld you fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness.’ It is very obvious that HH and Lungu can NEVER occupy the same locus for prayer. There is never any love lost between these twain. Reconciliation, what reconciliation?
Should we get rid of this day altogether?
God calls upon us to fight corruption and injustice and to care for the weak and vulnerable.
These are political Reverends severely damaged by brown envelopes. They speak for their bellies and not for God. What a heap of shame to the Christian cause being occasioned by these characters.
Christianity is dying with these so called men of God. They shout from rooftops when paid by someone and do not bother the cost of their words as long as the money is right. As Mrs Saunders said they should preach love and reconciliation very sad this trend in our so called Christian nation.
It was useless then and it is useless now! No apologies!
You just have to look at the past of this Reverand and he will be the first to cry that the activities he did were in the past now he is a changed man, but when it comes to others he wants to dwell in the past, these are not Reverand’s, they are devils in sheep’s skin.
