Nearly 300 Foreign Mercenaries Surrender in Eastern DRC

Goma – Nearly 300 foreign mercenaries hired by the DRC government to fight M23 rebels have surrendered and are returning home.

After M23 captured Goma, the mercenaries, along with Congolese troops and militias, were cornered near Lake Kivu and the Rwandan border. With no escape, they surrendered to UN peacekeepers, who arranged their transit home via Rwanda.

  1. DRC has been sleeping, such a mineral rich country has failed to have a disciplined functional army. DRC has a population 4 to 5 times that of Zambia being overwhelmed by a tiny country with a population of 8 million and with no mineral resources is embarrassing to say the least.
