RUSSIA WARNS OF ECONOMIC RISKS FROM EXCESSIVE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION
According to Reuters, Boris Titov, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Special Representative for International Cooperation, has warned that Russia’s economy could enter a “berserk mode” if it becomes excessively dependent on meeting the demands of the country’s military-industrial complex.
Titov cautioned that an economic model overwhelmingly focused on military production could only remain sustainable for “a very limited period of time.” He stressed the importance of maintaining a balance between military spending and the civilian economy.
The warning highlights growing concerns over the long-term consequences of Russia’s wartime economic mobilization. While increased defense production has helped drive industrial activity, Titov argued that diverting too much of the country’s economic capacity toward military needs could create serious imbalances and undermine sustainable growth in civilian sectors.
He called for Russia to avoid allowing its economy to become permanently dominated by the defense industry, emphasizing that long-term economic stability requires continued investment, production and development across both civilian and military sectors.
