The ruling Patriotic Front (PF) will retain power in the August election, National Democratic Congress (NDC) acting president Saboi Imboela has said.
Ms. Imboela said this when she joined a list of political parties endorsing the candidature of President Edgar Lungu ahead of the August 12 General Elections.
Speaking during an event held in Lusaka today, Ms. Imboela said the decision to endorse President Lungu has got blessings from the party structures countrywide.
“NDC is not like other opposition parties with no structures. Our Party structures in all the 10 provinces overwhelmingly agreed to support the candidature of President Edgar Chagwa Lungu,” Ms Imboela said.
She however said that the party will field candidates at Parliamentary and Local Government level.
Ms Imbolela has also charged that the selfishness of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema is what chased NDC away from the alliance.
“NDC is not a small party. We left because we refused to be swallowed by the alliance,” she said.
And Patriotic Front Member of the Central Committee Given Lubinda said President Lungu’s track record of embracing others and spreading development is what is attracting other opposition leaders to endorse him.
Mr. Lubinda said this is unlike the opposition UPND leader Mr Hichilema who has issues working with others.
“How can he (Hichilema) become the president of the nation if he doesn’t have a heart of Cooperating with others,” he said.
He has since thanked NDC for endorsing the candidature of President Lungu as the only winning candidate.
