SALUBUSA TO EXPLAIN WHY HE DIDN’T PETITION MATERО ELECTION RESULT
Former Matero Constituency aspiring Member of Parliament Patrick Mwamba Salubusa says he will tomorrow explain why he decided against petitioning the outcome of the August 13 general election, amid continued questions from his supporters.
Salubusa says the past 30 days have been difficult following the suspension of vote counting in Matero on August 14 and what he describes as the subsequent loss of what appeared to be his victory.
He says the period has been characterised by both gratitude for the support he received from voters and pain over the final outcome.
“Today marks exactly 30 days since we went to the polls as a country,” Salubusa said, adding that Matero residents had shown him exceptional love through their votes.
He said the suspension of counting had been followed by developments that left him deeply disappointed.
“This past month has been one of the most excruciating periods of my life,” he said.
Salubusa said despite his personal pain, he had chosen to remain strong for the people who supported him, stressing that leadership required resilience even in difficult circumstances.
He said he would use Monday’s live broadcast to address the questions surrounding his decision not to challenge the election outcome in court.
“Tomorrow, I will speak to you and the media about these matters,” he said.
Salubusa also thanked Matero residents for standing by him during the uncertainty surrounding the election result.
“Thank you for the exceptional love, trust and support you showed me through your votes,” he said.
He said he would also spend Sunday attending Masses at Lilanda Catholic Church and praying for the people of Matero.
Salubusa said his return to the constituency would not be driven by another electoral campaign, but by gratitude to the people who supported him.
“I will return to you physically – not as a man seeking votes, but as a grateful son of Matero,” he said.
