SANGOMAS UNHAPPY WITH MWEWA FOR REMOVING THEIR POSTERS

Traditional healers in Lusaka have expressed concern over the removal of their advertising posters by Lusaka Mayor Chitambala Mwewa, saying the exercise is negatively affecting their businesses.

One of the traditional healers, Edward Mwanamunyati who spoke on behalf of others, says business has become slow since the Mayor began removing posters advertising traditional healing services around the city.

Mr. Mwanamunyati, who is based in Kanyama Compound, says his business and that of others has been significantly affected because the posters were one of the ways he attracted customers.

He says he offers various traditional healing services, including claims of remedies for sexual health concerns, HIV and relationship problems.

Mr. Mwanamunyati has appealed to the Lusaka City Council to engage traditional healers and agree on designated areas where they can advertise their services without contravening council regulations.

“My business has become slow because the posters are being removed. We pay people who stick those posters, and removing them is damaging because of the costs we incur,” he said.

“We use money to print and transport the posters and pay people to put them up. It is not wise for Mr. Mwewa to just start removing them anyhow. We need to have a collective agreement on how we will move forward so that no one is disadvantaged,” Mr. Mwanamunyati said.

He has urged the Lusaka Mayor to consider a solution that allows traditional healers to advertise their services while maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the city.
