SCHOOL TEACHER LISTENING TO MUSIC FROM HEADSETS WHILE WALKING ON RAIL TRACKS HIT AND KILLED BY GOODS TRAIN
A 35-year-old man of Kabanana compound in Lusaka was hit by a Goods Train which was moving from Copperbelt to Lusaka.
Gilbert Kapenda, a Community School Teacher at Chimwansa Community School in Kabanana area sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the University Teaching Hospital.
The incident occurred around 11:00 hours in Kabanana Compound.
Officers from Zambia Police and Zambia Railways Police who rushed to the scene confirmed the incident.
Police investigations revealed that Mr. Kapenda was walking along the railway line with headsets in his ears listening to music from his cellphone and could not hear the Train honking. As a result, he was hit and sustained fatal injuries. Headsets and a cellphone were found at the scene of accident.
The body is in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Police have opened an inquiry file.
