SEAN Tembo has written to the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) demanding that it avails the public President Hakainde Hichilema’s declaration of assets and liabilities within five days failure to which legal proceedings against the commission will be instituted.
Mr Tembo, who is Patriots for Economic Freedom (PEP) president said the failure by the commission to publicise the declaration of assets and liabilities which was made during the nomination process was an infringement of the law.
According to a letter dated September 20, 2021 addressed to ECZ chairperson, Esau Chulu, Mr Tembo said the failure to disclose assets and liabilities was in contravention of Article 263 of the constitution of Zambia as well as Section 30 (1)(C) of the Electoral Process Act NO.35 and its regulations.
“We the people of Zambia have a legal right to know the wealth which the President had upon entering office so that we can determine the reasonableness of the wealth that he may accumulate while in office. That legal right has been infringed,” the letter read in party.
