SIX ARRESTED FOR DESTROYING TEACHER’S HOUSE OVER WITCHCRAFT ALLEGATIONS
Police in Nkhata Bay, Malawi, have arrested six people accused of demolishing a deputy headteacher’s house, stealing property and setting household items on fire following allegations of witchcraft.
Police spokesperson Devetor Mithi said the incident was sparked by rumors among pupils at Mpamba Primary School about a bloodstained fork allegedly dancing inside a toilet and a coffin containing two children.
However, an inspection conducted by teachers and community members found nothing to support the claims.
The suspects allegedly destroyed property valued at over MWK12 million (approximately ZMW K139,000).
Mithi said the six suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
