STREET VENDORS TO SUE MWEWA CHITAMBALA OVER LOSS OF BUSINESS.

Some street vendors who have been removed from the streets of Lusaka have threatened to sue Mayor-Elect Mwewa Chitambala over alleged loss of business.

The vendors claim that the decision to remove them from the streets was carried out without adequate notice, resulting in significant losses, particularly to those dealing in perishable goods.

According to the vendors, foodstuffs such as fish, meat and other products have gone bad after they were displaced from their usual trading areas.

The vendors say they have spent the past week trying to secure space in designated markets, but have struggled to find suitable trading spaces.

“We want to go to court to demand compensation from Mwewa Chitambala for disrupting our businesses. Our foodstuffs have gone bad because we were removed without proper notice. Our fish and meat have gone bad because, for the past week, we have been looking for space in the markets,” the vendors said.

The vendors are also seeking court intervention to stop the ongoing removal exercise until adequate space has been made available in the designated markets.

“We also want the court to stop the Mayor from continuing with this exercise before the markets are ready for us to move and trade from there,” they said.

The vendors say they are not opposed to being relocated but want the process to be handled in a manner that protects their livelihoods and businesses.

  1. They can sue. Lawyers will be celebrating chewing their money.
Illegal businesses don’t stand a chance in court.

Under PF, we strayed so far from the normal that even criminals think they are entitled to killing and looting.

There is a new sheriff in town.
Get in line. Or go to jail.

  2. Sometime we need to evaluate our legal standing on issues and the courts need to act appropriately by throwing out the matter with costs. The City should in turn counter sue. They need the money to sort out issues that there vendors have cause. Cleaning up the mess they have left and cleaning up after them daily. We have to change the mindset who think the state is an atm or a cash cow that they can abuse

  3. Can someone doing illegality sue over legality? Which lawyer can win you such a case?
Negotiate for space and better re zoning of trading spaces than that useless effort. You have been in the streets illegally and honestly, it is high time this was corrected
